Current Portmeirion Glassware
Current Ranges
Portmeirion have greatly reduced the number of glassware ranges available over the last few years. To learn more about previous glassware available from Portmeirion please visit our History Of Portmeirion Glass Page. One of the most successful designs of glassware introduced in the 1990s has been the Printed Glass. This simple design of etched Botanic Garden motifs on clear glass has been functional and excellent value for money. Available in box sets of 6 the glasses consist of either tumblers, hiballs, wine glasses or Champagne flutes. The quality of the glass has been improved in 2005 and the motifs updated to now include: Iris, Daisy, Forget-Me-Not, Rhododendron, Cyclamen and Speedwell.
The Options Goblet and All Purpose Wine Glass was originally introduced to complement the Option range of ceramics and glass chargers. Although the ceramic range was retired a number of years ago demand for the glassware has remained high. The range was extended in 2005 to include the glass with coloured stems giving the range a more modern feel.
In the 1990's Portmeirion saw a gap in the market for contemporary and innovative ceramic and glassware which focused on the changing trends of entertaining towards casual dinning. The ranges of Dusk and Dawn were introduced and although Dawn has now been retired Dusk remains a firm favourite. To complement the ceramic ware a new and imaginative use of glass accessories were introduced. Originally only available in Aubergine a technique was devised which allowed a silver and Aubergine colouring to be sandwiched between clear glass. The phenomenal success of this range led to the colours being extended to include blue and later black. Pearlescent glass is dramatic and brings a focus to the table when combined with complementary ceramics. These pieces also make excellent stand alone gifts.
Portmeirion continue to be interested in offering high quality glassware to compliment their ceramics and it is expected that over the next couple of years new glassware will be introduced. Never content with the ordinary it is likely to be both functional, well designed and impressive.
