Caring for Emile Henry
Emile Henry Ware has a highly resistant glaze which does not scratch or craze
The glaze is so hard, you can cut inside the dish without harming the surface. The products are also highly resistant to chipping.
The high firing temperatures used in manufacture, the eathenware is fired at 1150°C, means that the clay is extremely strong and resistant to chipping as well as ensuring that the surface of each piece is perfectly smooth.
In the dishwasher, or by hand, Emile Henry is easy to clean and will retain its vibrant colour without dulling and fading from washing. For heavy duty cleaning leave the dish to soak for 20 minutes to loosen off any burnt-on food, and then either wash by or hand or in the dishwasher for perfect results. The perfectly smooth glaze will not leave any trace of food, for impeccable hygiene. Emile Henry recommend good quality detergent products should be used.
Emile Henry dishes can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven. You can therefore prepare a meal in advance and put them in the freezer and simply reheat them when they are needed. Emile Henry dishes are designed to resist in the oven up to 250°C : they are not made to be put directly over the heat, such as gas or all type sof hot plates.
All Emile Henry dishes can be used in the microwave oven.
Caring for Emile Flame Products
Flame is made from ceramic, specially developed to resist against any source of direct heat. It can be used directly on any gas, electric or halogen hob as well as in all ovens and microwaves. Frame can be washed in the dishwasher and can be placed in the freezer up to -20°C. The uneven surface inside Flame products is there to catch the condensation created by the steam inside the stewpot, which will then fall back onto the food. This avoids the food drying out and keeps the flavours sealed in.
When heated, the ceramic dilates slightly, creating very thin cracks in the glaze. This is not a flaw, and on the contrary is proof of their resistance to temperature and long life.
