Portmeirion Soho
Soho
Soho from Portmeirion Pottery was the company's first launch
of a complete range of new tableware shapes since the late 1990's. Designed
in association with the UK's foremost design team, Queensberry Hunt, it
represents a dramatic new contemporary design launched in 2004. Soho offers
simple sophistication, clean lines and 21st century conspicuous style but
with a practicality that makes it perfect for urban living.
Queensberry Hunt's credentials set them at the forefront of contemporary
product design, within the modern ceramic industry. Working both within
the industry for companies as diverse as Habitat, Rosenthal, Wedgewood,
Le Creuset and Guzzini, and at the cutting edge of design as professors
and lecturers in ceramics at the RCA, the award winning design team of
David Queensberry and Martin Hunt have continued to set the
standards of modern product design.
Soho draws together two major forces in the UK Ceramics
industry. The Company continues to push the boundaries of modern tableware
design, both in concept and manufacture, Soho is yet another dynamic and
progressive move for Portmeirion offering attractive and affordable table
and giftware which is design led for today's discerning "White Plate
Generation" Simple does not have to be boring. In this case ,the company
have made simple chic and practical.
White, Nightline and M. Code
The collection originally consisted of 3 patterns,
White, Nightline and M Code. The pattern concept was simple; it
relied on minimalist pattern styles so as not to detract from
the shapes and elegant lines of the new tableware. Nightline proved
popular for a while but M Code failed to attract sufficient interest and,
always considered the weakest of the collection, was never launched.
The Collection went ahead with just the two patterns, White and
Nightline. Nightline featured a simple band of black around the
rim of each piece making a dramatic contrast to the clean white
ceramic. At the end of 2005 it was decided to retire the Nightline pattern as well leaving only the plain white Soho in the range.
Soho has been conceived to act as backdrop
for fabulous food. All the items in the range have been designed
to be completely multi-functional, able to morph and adapt to
anything from Tapas to Sushi, Pasta to Thai. The shapes, whilst
beautifully sculptured, are practical, stackable, microwave, freezer
and dishwasher safe, and adapt to a wide range of uses. What ever
the flavour, from New York to Tokyo, London to Sidney, the cosmopolitan
nature of the new Collection will suit any dining experience in
any time zone!!
